One Month Old

I cannot believe that one month has officially passed since you were born little Mace. I cannot believe that you have grown from a 10 pound 1 ounce baby to a 12 pound 15 ounce baby boy. You are such an easy going baby, and have this past month of your little life such a blessing and easy one!

Day Number 1

Since the day you were born you have loved to sleep. You started out sleeping anywhere from 5-7 hours at a time at night since the day you were brought home. Over the past month though you have been going through some growth spurts so those long hours of sleep at night have dwindled down to about 4-5 hours at a time. Which is completely fine with me, because you don't even cry at night when you hungry, you usually just grunt and wiggle out of your swaddle. Once you are awake, you quickly eat and then will go back to bed!! You slept in your rocker next to my bed for the first three weeks, and this past week you have been sleeping in your bed, which I think you like. We moved you in there since it was time, and of course because you grunt a lot in your sleep, so that was keeping mommy from getting sleep!!!You aren't much of a napper unless mommy is laying down with you. You will nap for a few hours in the afternoon with mommy and Carter, but we have to be snuggling in order for you to do so. You don't care for your bed during the day at all. We are working on this!!

You are a great little nursing buddy! Since day one you have done a great job eating, and you do so frequently. Those first few days in the hospital and at home you had mama a little sore because you couldn't figure out your latch, but after many helpful attempts by mama you quickly learned how to do it right and now are a champ. You started out feeding about 40 minutes on one side, and then you would just nurse on the other side at the next feeding. We then decided that since I was making so much milk we needed to nurse on each side at each feeding, or else Mama was leaking all over the place (sorry TMI). Now you feed about 15-20 minutes on each side and seem content with that. Even though sometimes you try to use me as a pacifier and stay on longer. But, I have quickly learned to not let you do that!!! You took your first breast milk bottle at two weeks old, and did great. Like your big brother you took your milk cold and drank 3 oz! You have been taking 3 oz in a bottle (when you get it) and may be ready for more than that!! We are going to see what you do with 4 oz this weekend!!
MONTH 1

You are a little gassy guy, and have required us to give you some gas drops, and just today we opted for some gripe water. It seems as though you grunt and grunt alot, and need just a little help getting your belly to get out your poop and gas!! Today you spent a good chunk of your morning crying because your belly hurt, and once we gave you the gripe water, you had a much better day!! Thank Goodness,  because Mama was starting to get a little freaked out. With the gassyness, you also have a little bit of spit up happening. Not at every feeding, but occasionally. I have noticed that it is the way you are sitting once your are done eating, so we are going to work on making sure you sit upright when your done!

You never even got the chance to wear newborn diapers, but you did rock newborn and 0-3 month onesies for about 3 weeks. You are now in 0-3, and 3 month pjs, and can wear newborn pants (your a shorty), and you can wear 3-6 month pants (rolled up). You have graduated from newborn and 0-3 onesies into 3-6 month onesies. Some of them are a bit big, but overall they seem to fit! You have inherited a ton of clothes, along with all the sweet outfits you were gifted, so many that you didn't even get to wear all your newborn and 0-3 month stuff!! Oh well!! Your a growing little guy!!

From the day you were born you have been very good with lifting your head up off our shoulders and sometimes act more like a 2 month old than a 1 month old. You are getting better at tummy time, but really prefer to just put your head down and nap. Probably because your brother is in your face and it is easier to just lay your head down and stare at him! You like your swing, and tolerate the bouncy seat. You enjoy being held (ALOT) and love to be swaddled up. You like it when we hold you tight and rock you, and of course we do this ALOT! You like your bink, but don't have to have it to sleep! Thank Goodness!!! You like to watch (well, I think you do) your mobile on your swing, and your toys that hand in your car seat. You smile in your sleep alot, and by the end of the month recognize mommy and daddy's faces (and I think Carters too) and all of our voices.

Speaking of carseat, you don't like the darn thing. You cry every time we put you in it, and will continue to scream the entire time you are in it! We feel so bad, because you get so upset and just scream and scream till you are red in the face, and sweating up a storm. I hope that you quickly get over this very bad habit, because it makes car rides very un-enjoyable (just ask your brother, who has now figured out how to put his fingers in his ears so he doesn't have to listen to you scream).

One nice thing is that you do like bath time. You only cried that one time (your first time) in the tub, and now enjoy being scrubbed and cleaned up. Tonight you were trying to drink the water in the tub, which is a NO NO, but you weren't crying, so that is a good thing!

I just cannot get over the fact that you are now one month old. You are growing so fast, and all right before our eyes. It makes me want to just freeze time, because it is going to fast for me to handle! As much as I love that you are growing into a healthy baby, it makes me sad that this month is over and we are already onto the next month!! I look forward to watching you grow little guy!!

Till next month big boy-
J
