5 Months Old

Little Mason Boy,
Height and Weight: You are growing at a rapid speed, and it appears that you are 18.8 lbs and 27.5 inches long. You are in the 85th percentile for weight and 97th percentile for height. You have the cutest little rolls in your thighs, and the sweetest, most kissable cheeks ever.

Daily:  You are still the easiest baby ever. You get up anywhere from 630-730, sometimes 8 am, and you nurse, then want to immediately eat your cereal (which you love mixed with bananas). You then like to go down for a morning nap around 9-930 ish and sleep anywhere from 1 hour to 3 hours. Depends on what kind of mood you are in!! You then usually eat lunch and then take another nap in the afternoon. These naps used to be long, but it seems as though they are getting a little bit shorter. Especially if you take a nice long morning nap, then putting you down for an afternoon nap is a struggle. You sometimes are a bit fussy when we put you down for a nap, but usually I can rock you to sleep if need be. You aren't really taking that evening nap before bedtime anymore. We noticed that you just like to go to bed a little bit earlier after dinner.

Eating: You are still eating every 3-4 hours during the day (mostly 3) and eating 5 oz at each feeding! We are still nursing and you are still doing a very good job. But, boy do you get frustrated when there is no more milk left. You are nursing  about 10 minutes on each side, and it takes you about 30 minutes to eat a bottle! We have dabbled in a lot over the past month when it comes to baby food. I am making most of your food and like with your brother, you are loving it all! We have tried apples, bananas, pears, a mixture of fruit, peas, green beans, sweet potato, squash, carrots and a few different mixed baby foods. You also eat cereal in the morning with a little bit of fruit, and you are eating rice cereal as well. Sometimes you get the rice at lunch and dinner, but it depends on how your belly is that day (tends to get you constipated). You get anywhere from 2-3 tbsp of cereal and 1/4 of a banana in the morning, lunchtime you get about 2-3 tbsp of fruits and 2-3 tbsp of veggies, dinner time you get rice cereal 2-3 tbsp, 2-3 tbsp of fruit and 2-3 tbsp of veggies. You don't always eat everything that we make for you, but most of the time you do. You are a growing little boy.

Bedtime: This past month your sleep schedule has been crazy on the weekends with all the holiday stuff we have had going on. But, you are still pretty religious about your schedule. You eat dinner anywhere from 530-630 and this past month we have noticed that you like to go to bed almost immediately after your 7pm nursing session. Going to bed around 730 does not seem to affect your sleep schedule at all. You still go down for bedtime like a champ, and fall asleep immediately. you like to lay down with your thin swaddle blanket, and have your sound machine playing in the background. You started off the month still being swaddled, but we slowly weened you off that the past two weeks and you are doing great! No complaints!! You are pretty much an amazing little sleeper!! Let's keep it that way, please!!!!!!!!

Sizes: You started off the month in 6 months clothes, and now are rocking 9 month clothes. the pants are too long, so we still rock the 6 month pants, but everything else needs to be 9 months, you are too long for those 6 month items!! You are still rocking size 3 diapers!

Milestones:  You are still a very very happy little guy. You smile and giggle all the time. You love it when we play peek a boo with you, sing with you, dance with you and just get down on the ground and entertain you. Carter really gets a kick out of entertaining you. You think he is pretty funny, especially when he is throwing a tantrum. You love when we undress you and put your arms through your clothes, you laugh hysterically! You play with just about all your handheld toys these days, and have your favorites, which include, your ball with the little ball inside of it, and your keys. You play in your exersaucer and don't really care for it, yet. You also still love your play mat, and really get into the toys that are dangling from it. You no longer are in your swing, since you started lunging out of it; so we put it away. You do love playing in your rocker swing, which you rock in alot. You also love to watch cartoons with your brother. Just like him, you are pretty obsessed with Chuggington. Every time we turn it on you laugh and immediately get quiet and watch it. You sometimes roll over from back to front, but it seems as most of the time that arm of yours gets in the way. You found your little piggies and love playing with them, especially when you don't have any socks or pjs on them.
You love bath time, and are getting more splashy when you are in there. Carter likes helping you bathe, which I am not sure you love!! You are starting to sit up a little bit, and can do it for a few minutes at a time. I think it will be sooner rather than later before your are doing it on your own. You prefer sitting up over laying down. When you are laying down (propped up) you tend to try to lunge forward.

You are still the light of our eye, and are the happiest, most loveable baby ever. You have made the past five months pretty easy on us.

Till next time-
J
