Eight Months Old Already?

It is really hard to believe that our little mans first year is already 2/3 of the way over. I cannot believe that he is going to be turning one in just a few short months! He is becoming such a little boy and his little personality is growing by the day. He is one of the happiest baby's I have ever seen (and not I am not just saying that because he is mine). He laughs and giggles all the time. But, don't let that little smile and laugh fool you, he has a few of his daddy and mommy's characteristics in him that give his personality a little "kick"... He has no patience (like his daddy) and he sure is stubborn (like his mama). We see this when he is trying to get to a toy that he can't reach and he just starts to let the little tears flow. Or when he doesn't want you to leave the room, he will just put his little head between his legs and cry. He knows what he wants, and most of the time we give it to him, but it is hard because I don't  want him to just be picked up because he cries.

We are not crawling yet, but he sure is a rolling machine, and he scoots backwards. He wants to crawl so bad, he just hasn't figured out how to get those little legs up and moving. The scooting backwards is fun to watch because he can really maneuver around the living room now that he can scoot and roll like crazy! It makes for interesting bedtime manners to, because we will lay him down then the next thing we know (if he isn't tired) he will be rolling around the bed, and then up on all fours. He will get there.. just not this month. He also has learned that he can stand up and play with his "walker" or his little "toy stand" or better yet just  the couch. He loves to stand and he loves for you to help him "walk." He actually has taken to standing more now over sitting up. This makes for an interesting time of getting him in his high chair because he doesn't want to sit in it, he would rather stand! We have a feeling that there may be some walking before crawling, but we will see!
Little man is doing a great job of eating these days. We have incorporated bite size pieces of fruits and veggies into his meal, and he seems to be doing a great job with them. He is still eating homemade baby mush, I mean food and sometimes he does prefer the baby food over the pieces, so we are working on one meal as pieces and one meal as baby food. He is in love with his butternut squash, and has grown to love his sweet potatoes, green beans and peas. The green beans and peas he does not love them as homemade baby food, not sure why though. He does eat the bite size pieces of them though which is weird. He loves yogurt, gold fish, cheez-its, crackers, cinnamon sticks and apple sauce. I think the kid could live off yogurt, cinnamon sticks and applesauce. You bring out any of  those items and the kids goes nuts. He loves those Gerber cinnamon sticks and cannot get enough of them, he just gobbles them down. They make him smell like a walking pancake though!! We are still nursing and still going strong with it. He seems more distracted though lately and it makes for a long nursing session, but we have down a routine that works for him and it works for me to! As long as he continues to do well with it, we are going to keep going! We are almost there! He is drinking water out of his sippy cup which he can now hold by himself, and he gets a big kick out us letting him drink out of a water bottle, our cup or even a straw! He is just getting so big!!!!

He is working on how to wave bye bye and learning how to do "So BIG" (hands over head), he hasn't quite figured out how to do them yet, but he laughs every time we do.  So hopefully he will get to working on that. Per the pediatrician he should know how to do that by the 9 month visit. So we have a few weeks to go!!! He has learned how to kiss though, and it is so stinkin' cute. He opens his mouth and gives you a nice wet one, that is when he is in the mood. Sometimes he keeps kissing you and he thinks it is so funny! I love it!!! He has his favorites these days and those include his Cardinals blanket (thanks Karen and Kelly Beck) and his Cardinals bat (Thanks Grandma Cathy). He gets so excited when its nap time or bedtime and he gets that blanket. He loves chewing on the silk side and he snuggles up with it when he is in his bed or when I am snuggling with him before bed! The bat, he has figured out how to hit things with it, so it can be dangerous at times, but he sure does love it!!
He is still in size 3 diapers and wearing clothes anywhere from 9 months to 18 months depending upon the brand! He is occasionally wearing  onesies, but we have not ventured into the two piece sets (shorts and t-shirts) and he looks like such a big boy in them! It's so hard looking at all this little onesies that he used to wear and how little they are. Everything he has makes him look like a little boy, and not a baby anymore! He has quite a few pairs of cute shoes that I wish he would let me put on his feet, but he curls up his "monkey toes" (as we call them) and so we cant put his shoes on him.

He loves, loves, loves, and I mean LOVES the water! He thinks bath time is a game and loves splashing and kicking water all over the bathroom. It is so funny to watch him. When we are bathing him he rolls over and over and over, and if water gets in his little face it doesn't even bother him anymore. Swimming is a huge bath tub to him and he just loves it!

He is learning how to imitate these days and he really gets a big kick out of it. He has also learned how to shake his head no, and we have no clue where he learned that from. He does it when he doesnt want annymore food (or he will just clamp his little mouth shut so you cant feed him anymore, or he will put his head down too) or if you say something to him he might just shake his head no no. It is hilarious, but again not sure where he learned that from. When you talk to him he really watches your mouth and tries to imitate what you are saying. We are working on Ma-Ma, Da-Da, Dog, and lately poop; only because he thinks it is so funny! Sometimes I think he says things and they sound close to Ma- Ma, and Da-Da but that could just be my imagination. He does jabber alot and he seems to think he is "talking" because if you talk back he will too. It's funny to listen to! He also has figured out how to reach towards you when he wants you. If you are standing up he will put his arms up to reach for you to pick him up, or if you are holding him and he wants someone else he will reach for them. The only bad thing about this is that sometimes I think he thinks it is a game and he goes back and forth between Michael and I; it's like he can't make up his mind!

This month went by too fast, and so much has happened! I cannot wait to see what month number 9 brings, and with that he will be partaking in a few more "firsts," we have our first family vacation, first plane ride, and his first beach experience and we cannot wait!! We also are going to be getting the chance to meet his little cousin, Jackson this month and we are all so very excited!!!

Till next time-

J
